The Danzhou voicing is a state-level intangible cultural heritage. It is the Han folk songs sung in Danzhou dialect, mainly in forms of unison and antiphonal singing, and characterized by fast-paced, melodic, and warm feelings, and accompanied by dance, dubbed as "the exquisite work of arts of the Southland". The Danzhou voicing style approximates the folk tune. The tunes have gōng, shāng and yǔ and other tuning, the melody also often have mode exchange and modulation change. Moreover, the Danzhou voicing is good at absorbing melodies from ancient classical, modern music, foreign songs, and even school songs, which is one of the important reasons for the lasting, liveliness, and freshness of the voicing art. According to research by experts, the lyrics of Danzhou ancient folk are mostly the "two and a half sentences" with loose rhyme. Later, people learned the melody of "field folk" in the labor, then add the dance rhythms with distinctive beats and the tones with high-spirited emotion for collective duet, and the arms and body swing back and forth with rhythm of the song when singing. In 2006, the Danzhou voicing applied by the authority of Danzhou City, Hainan Province was listed as the first batch of state-level intangible cultural heritage, under the category of folk music and in serial number 45.
